BONJOUR.

I’m Arthur Genre. French content creator focusing on the culture, history, and aesthetics of the United States. I make documentaries on YouTube, shoot American life on Instagram, and write thoughts, sometimes fiction, on this blog. I have lived in France, New York and Florida, and work both in French and English.

I am a 21-year-old creative mind making content on several platforms. Born and raised in France, I am fascinated by the United States of America and have worked and studied there. After finishing my exchange program at the State University of New York at New Paltz, I decided to become a freelance writer and use my expertise about American Culture. Fascinated by visual content, I also make some photography in my free time and my travels around the globe, that I publish on my Instagram page. I also like to write about those travels on my blog. However, you will find my most important work on YouTube. Indeed, since 2016, I’ve been creating videos and documentaries focused on American culture and history.

For my show Captain America, I work on researching relevant information about many topics related to American history and culture, such as American sports or the history of a city. I then record my voice and edit images and videos using Final Cut Pro X. Those videos are typically between 15 and 30 minutes long. Those episodes are also available as Podcasts.

My second show called Welcome To America takes the viewers to the United States as I make them discover places around the country. I shoot videos during my journeys that I then select and edit, using a voice-over to tell stories. My work, therefore, includes but is not limited to filming, writing, audio recording, editing, and color-grading.

Those creations have taught me a lot aside from the process of videography. I have gained strong skills in graphic design or managing social networks. After a semester studying Feature Writing with Journalist Michael Frank, I have decided to make my passion for telling inspiring stories my professional career. I am now a freelance travel writer and video maker, helping my audience to explore more thanks to immersive stories. I have been an active contributor to the adventure section of The Teller, SUNY New Paltz’s magazine.

If you are interested in working with me for a project, feel free to contact me through my contact form.

MY STORY

I love creating things. Since I was a child, I have always hated being a watcher and a follower. Instead, I just wanted to play my part in every field I like. I spent my childhood watching cartoons and reading comics, which is why, at the same time, I would create my own stories but with my own means. I would draw (or at least try,) write stories, invent comic books… Although this may seem anecdotal, I truly believe that it is a perfect illustration of why I’m doing everything I do. Creating content, whether written, filmed, or recorded, has been a passion for my whole life. When I was only 11, I would edit my first videos with iMovie. At 12, I discovered iWeb, with which I had fun creating some websites and blogs. I discovered WordPress a few years later. I remember creating blogs about Apple products and news, design, lifestyle… The only one that survived is this personal blog that you are currently reading. In 2016, I created my YouTube Channel. Why? Well, for the same reasons I wrote above. It had been a desire for a while. As an important consumer of YouTube videos, I wanted to create my own, I just had to find the right idea. The turning point was in February, in Florida, when I was watching the Super Bowl. I realized how much I loved American culture, and I understood that it was the thing I wanted to talk about. I love what I do, first because I share my knowledge, but mostly because I learn a lot. Every new episode I write, I learn new things about fascinating subjects, by watching documentaries and reading books about the episode’s topic. If I started as an amateur a few years ago, I’ve gotten to become an expert thanks to the hours and days I spent learning, alongside with my studies.

My adventure on the internet seems to be quite long. But more and more of my projects are working, and new ones come to my mind every day. The truth is, my adventure is only beginning, and I am so happy to be able to share it with you.

Cheers, Arthur.
